Grapes, vineyards and Apulian wines ...

Apulia is a country of ancient winemaking traditions . The plains of Puglia have been a sanctuary of vineyards and olive trees, since the time of the Phoenicians and the Greeks . The Greeks named Southern Italy " Enotria " ( country of wine ) . During the Romans age, Apulian wines had the maximum splendor.
Dante Alighieri, in his verses, describes the Apulia as " thirsty land where the sun becomes wine ".
The wine will leave an important mark on the Apulian culture: from " merum " which in Latin means " pure wine " or " genuine wine ", originates the term " mjere ", which in the Apulian dialect means " wine."
Originally the production of Apulia was mainly focused on blending wines for the production of other parts of Italy and Europe. After the Second World War, begins a gradual pursuit of quality with the birth of many wineries that have received honors and awards over the years. Nowadays Apulia contends with Sicily the Italian record in terms of areas under vines and wine produced.
